FAQs

Will there still be a Children's Mass on Friday?
Yes, Father and Mrs. Woodall have discussed this and want to continue that piece of your child's Sacred Heart education! Mass will be the same time as last year, 8:30 AM. It WILL NOT be open to the public. Mass routine will be very similar to the current weekend Mass. The year will start with no servers, or Mass parts, and we will reassess as the year progresses. Not only do we have to follow closely to CDC and Public Health guidelines, but the Bishop has protocol for Masses in the diocese as well. A schedule has been created for grades to rotate attending Mass, having two classes at a time, socially distanced and wearing a mask. All the other grades will be able to view Mass on their Smartboard in their classroom. Mass will also be live streamed on the parish website at http://www.spencersacredheart.com/onlinemass

Can I bring my child into the building on their first day?
No, parents are not able to enter the building for drop off. Hopefully it is a nice day, so parents can still get a great 1st day photo outside the school! All staff will be available to assist with the first day jitters. At each drop off location students will be greeted with a familiar face to help get them to their classroom.

How will lunch look?
Some grades will be eating in their classrooms, but the majority of the classes will eat in the gym. We have spread out lunch waves, so that only 2 grades are in the lunchroom at the same time. In addition to the lunchroom tables, other tables will be set up all around the gym so students can socially distance while eating. In between each lunch wave, proper disinfecting will take place.

Will students all gather in the gym at arrival?
No. Students will go directly to their classroom when they arrive.

Will breakfast still be served?
Yes. Mrs. Johnson will serve breakfast by going around from classroom to classroom with a cart. Students will eat breakfast in their classrooms. Breakfast is served only from 7:40-8:00 AM.

Can students still bring birthday treats?
Yes. Birthday treats need to be store bought and individually wrapped.

Can siblings of preschool students all be picked up and dropped off at the preschool doors?
Yes. Siblings of 4 year old preschool students will all be picked up and dropped off at the preschool doors.

What time does school start?
School starts at 8:15 AM. First bell will ring at 8:10 AM. This is when students need to be in their rooms and at their desks ready for the day. At 8:15 AM Mrs. Woodall will do morning announcements. Students should arrive at school sometime between 7:40 and 8:05 AM to be prepared for the first bell at 8:10 AM.

What will the first day of school look like?
All students will be dropped off at their assigned entrance. They will be greeted by familiar, smiling faces, as staff will welcome them and assist them to their classrooms. We know some kids may need assistance getting all their materials to their classrooms, so extra hands and carts will be available to help with the process. Students can be dropped off between 7:40 and 8:05 AM so they are ready for their first day of school!

Will there be a flag raising ceremony like in years past?
Yes, but it will look different. It is NOT open to the public, so parents are not allowed to stay for. It will be live streamed on our Facebook page around 8:15 AM. The scouts will still raise the flag, which has been donated from our local VFW. Students will watch the flag raising ceremony from their classrooms on their SMARTBoard.

What will virtual learning look like for my student if they have to be quarantined?
Ask your child's classroom teacher. All teachers have been focusing on this and created virtual learning schedules/plans so you know exactly what to expect if that should happen to your child.

What will after school care pick up look like?
After school pick up will be at the front main entrance. Parents will come to the front door to check out and a staff member will get your child. Parents will not be allowed in the building.

Where will I pick up my child if they have an appointment, or call home sick?
The front main entrance will be used for pick up throughout the day, or if you are dropping your child off late or at a different time throughout the day due to an appointment.
